Dentists recommend control of sugar intake to reduce the chances of tooth decay developing or worsening if already present. We advise:-
- Reduce amount and frequency of sugar intake-sweet foods and drinks at mealtimes, low sugar/no sugar snacks and drinks inbetween.
- Watch for all the hidden sugars in drinks and foods-don't believe the labelling, if it tastes sweet it's got sugar in it!!
- Aim for one sweet day per week-don't spread the treats out. Try going for non-edible rewards such as stickers, comics, colouring books, etc.
- Start the children visiting your dentist as soon as teeth develop-that's from 6-9 months!!
